Eduventures Launches New Learning Collaborative for Student Affairs Professionals

Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 11, 2007 -- Eduventures, the leading collaborative research and consulting firm for higher education, has announced the launch of its member-based Student Affairs Learning Collaborative.

The Student Affairs Learning Collaborative provides members with insights and direction to identify best management practices, benchmark performance and improve core processes through research, analysis and networking opportunities. The initial focus of the research will be on common challenges faced by student affairs professionals such as diversity programming, health and mental health care, organizational and staff development and learning outcomes measurement.

"The need for a collaborative research program in student affairs became clear from the questions we were receiving from our Enrollment Management and Development members," said Brent Keltner, senior vice president for Eduventures. "Student affairs plays a key, strategic role in the mission of the university by using experiences and activities outside the classroom to develop well-rounded leaders and citizens. The Student Affairs program launch also completes Eduventures' strategic mission of providing research support across the student life cycle, linking research on prospective students, current students and alumni."

Eduventures' Student Affairs Learning Collaborative launches with 20 charter members, including university leaders from University of California, Los Angeles; The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; University of Maryland; and Northwestern University. Eduventures offers similar research programs in Continuing and Professional Education, Development, Enrollment Management and Online Higher Education.

Japanese Kanji Learning: Short-Cuts to Rapid Mastery (Part 1)
What? Kanji can be learned quickly? This seems an impossible dream to many students of Japanese who come from a non-kanji language culture. Even hiragana and katakana seem impossibly hard to the average beginner, so remembering kanji, with all their intricate strokes and multiple readings, can appear to be beyond the abilities of the human mind.

A Christian Alphabet Learning Tool
There are many concepts of learning in young children. The recently popular "multiple intelligences" concept, though much debated, is the basis for a new software for Christian children in the very early years. Such software is surprisingly rare. A few programs are available from the major kids' networks, mainly catering for the slightly older toddler who already recognizes letter shapes and sounds. Many others are either expensive or poorly reviewed. From this lack, the "J is For Jesus" software program was born. Most early learning activities encourage associating letters with familiar names and objects. The letter "J" for example is commonly taught as "J" is for "jam" or "jelly". This encourages recognition of letter sounds and shapes ...

Hello from Sicily: My Italian Language Learning Adventure - Exploring the Beauty of Sicily and Sailing through the Eolian Islands
Sicily the name alone conjures up images of an exotic island, a mysterious and fascinating past. I have wanted to explore Italy for some time now since I had not been there for a long, long time, and when I was pondering which region of Italy to explore Sicily came to mind. I figured this island would offer a combination of fascinating history, rich culture, scenic beauty, and an opportunity for a wide variety of activities. One activity I definitely wanted to pursue was to combine my journey with language studies: my earlier language study trips to Havana and Cuernavaca, Mexico, not only got me closer to the Spanish language, but these on-site language learning experiences really allowed me to explore the culture from within.
