Widow's Grief Shared in Intimate Story About Learning to Live Again After Loss
Columbus, GA (PRWEB) January 28, 2008 -- When Deborah Slappey Pitts was widowed at 40 years old, she sunk into the depths of grief; to help others in grieving, she now shares her painful journey in her new book "Shadow Living: Paintings of Grief."
Anyone who is going through a terrible life crisis and needs to know that there's someone else out there who can relate to their pain should pick up Deborah Slappey Pitts new book "Shadow Living: Paintings of Grief" (ISBN 9780978789701, Harobed House, 2007) for a very real, up-close-and-personal account of dealing with grief and learning to live again.
At 40 years old, Pitts became a widow when her husband died from primary amyloidosis, a rare and deadly disease of the immune system that affects just eight people per million each year. In "Shadow Living," Pitts allows readers to feel her pain with an open and honest retelling of her first year of learning to live as a widow.
Pitts describes her experiences using the seven stages of grief: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, fear, depression and acknowledgement. "I went back and forth several times between anger, denial, and even depression before I finally arrived at acknowledging the fact that my husband was gone from this earth and wasn't coming back," Pitts says. "I had to learn to appreciate the beautiful 21 years we had together as man and wife."
"Shadow Living" is a deeply intimate account of the grieving process that pulls readers into Pitts' agony--from her private screams of anguish, to the eventual calming of her spirit. "Shadow Living" also shares a few of the activities Pitts discovered to be helpful in relieving her grief, including rearranging the furniture and writing in a journal.
Pitts says she chose to publish her experiences to help better understand her own grieving process and to attempt to help others going through a similar situation. The insights from "Shadow Living" relate to grief associated with many different types of life losses. So whether you're going through a divorce, financial hardship or job loss, "Shadow Living" can bring comfort and advice during your time of grief, and help you learn how to begin experiencing a beautiful life again.
